How does the loan process work?
-
Submit a prequalification form
Start by completing a short prequalification form online. If you appear eligible, HFLA staff will invite you to complete a full loan application.
-
Application review and interview
Once your full application is reviewed by staff, eligible applicants will be invited to speak virtually with two HFLA board members for a brief 20–30 minute conversation.
-
Loan decision
After the interview, HFLA determines loan approval, repayment terms, and loan amount based on each applicant’s individual circumstances.
-
Approval and funding
Approved applicants sign a promissory note (what's that?) before funds are distributed.
Repayment plans are tailored to each borrower’s situation. We encourage repayment via Zelle or check to avoid credit card processing fees.
Because HFLA operates with a small staff and volunteer board members, timing may vary depending on scheduling and holiday observances. While some applications move quickly, others may take one week or longer.
